In a few words, tell us about the MADIC group?

Benjamin Straubhaar, Hydrogen Product Manager, MADIC group: Founded in 1971, the MADIC group is a French company involved in designing, manufacturing, and maintaining multi-energy stations. 100% family owned; the group has 1400 employees on 30 sites around the world.

With more than 6,000 equipped service stations, 20,000 electric charging points and 25,000 outdoor payment terminals, the MADIC group is a trusted partner to accompany our customers in complete security.

The group's growth is based on a strategy of sustainable development, with respect for   people, the company and the planet.

Why are you investing in hydrogen?

B.S: Passionate about innovation and committed to the energy transition, the group has been investing in zero-emission mobility, such as electric charging stations for 12 years and more recently in hydrogen stations.

Hydrogen is an accelerator of Europe's energy independence, and therefore we offer a turnkey solution of autonomous, modular, and scalable hydrogen stations.

What makes you different in this competitive hydrogen station market?

B.S: The MADIC group is a group of expertise centres, each of them brings complementary solutions, dedicated to energy distribution, payment, digital customer journey and associated services.

We master the whole chain, from design to maintenance of Storage – Distribution – Energy management, as well as in the Construction – Maintenance – Inspection of multi-service stations. As a manufacturer and repairer of payment solutions, we bring our expertise in legal metrology. We also have a lot of experience in working in risky and secure environments.

The rapid and international deployment of hydrogen mobility requires demanding regulations, especially in terms of safety for users and staff. This is why the MADIC group is committed to respecting the standards and requirements of the hydrogen environment.

We offer 3 sizes of stations according to the specific needs of our customers, in terms of quantity per filling, total daily quantity, filling sequences, back-to-back episodes, number of charging points and pressures.

  • Small (1000 kg/d)

Once the station is sized, our experts will assist you with the administrative procedures and then ensure the installation, commissioning, and maintenance (predictive, regulatory, preventive, and curative) of your hydrogen station. We also offer several levels of assistance, from the 24/7 helpdesk to the intervention of our technical service dedicated to professionals. Our remote supervision system, also used on fuel and CNG stations, allows the operator to be informed in real time of the station's status, to anticipate the interventions to be made and to improve the station's performance. If necessary, our 450 field technicians will provide the best possible assistance.

What are your areas of development and your strategy?

B.S: The MADIC group is innovating in the fields of energy and the automotive environment, unattended payment, the digitalized customer journey and associated services.

Since 2010, we have invested heavily in the field of alternative energies with the recent construction of a new 18,000 m² plant (2022) that will allow the creation of new assembly lines, including two lines dedicated to the containerization and distribution of hydrogen. This site, based in Saint-André-de-Cubzac (in north of Bordeaux), will also be the international center for electronic repair for our Payments & Systems activities, MADIC repair, which is certified and labelled by the GIE Cartes Bancaires.

MADIC group continues to deploy its hydrogen solution

We have surrounded ourselves with experienced and trusted partners in the hydrogen field. To ensure that hydrogen is recognized as an essential solution for the success of the ecological transition, we are an active member of France Hydrogène and of the Energies Stockage in Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

What's new for 2023?

B.S: 2023 will see the construction of our first hydrogen station at our Technology Centre near Bordeaux, which will be open to the public and accessible to all types of hydrogen vehicles (buses, trucks, LCVs, cars).

This station, the only one of its kind, will offer multiple means of payment (credit card, badges, QR codes). It will reflect all the MADIC group's know-how in terms of user experience and will be a training center of the group's technicians on hydrogen and its challenges as well as a real catalyst for future projects.

What are your other flagship products?

B.S: For 13 years, the MADIC group, via its industrial subsidiary, has been developing a complete range of PULSE charging stations (AC & DC) for electric vehicles as well as the associated payment solutions allowing the interoperability of its solutions.

Social and cultural behaviours are changing and mobility is accelerating. As part of a continuous improvement approach and respect for the environment, new energy recharging locations and devices are being developed. For these spaces where distribution must be facilitated, secured, and enhanced, we are also developing multi-energy, multi-payment solutions, and associating specific services that meet the needs of operators and users.
