ProGauge celebrates 30 year anniversary in the fuel retail and convenience industry

On 23rd March 1993 Start Italiana, now officially known as ProGauge, was founded.

Transforming itself from a small Italian retailer to a production company in 2003, Start Italiana developed its very first Level Monitor – a product still sold to this day – and wired probe.

In 2004, Start Italiana obtained its first ATEX EXD certificate and started approaching solvent depots before moving into the fuel industry in 2006, when the company gained its first ISO9001 certificate and an unexpected ENI tender win.

As a result of the project with ENI, the Start Italiana brand name became more well-known within the industry, which in turn presented many new opportunities. In 2009, Start Italiana attained its first intrinsic safety certification, coinciding with its first RF and cabled probes; as well as the design of the first barriers.

Over the next two years Start Italiana continued to build its reputation within the industry and in 2011 the company gained its very first OIML and PESO certification, before targeting Turkey and India to grow sales and market share. In 2013, Start Italiana became part of Tokheim while also becoming officially known as ProGauge.

Over the next three years, ProGauge continued to develop its products and solutions while building relationships with key distributors and partners along the way. In 2016 ProGauge – alongside Tokheim – became part of Dover Fueling Solutions (DFS). Growth continues and in 2020 the DFS DMP probe is “born”, representing the almost three decades worth of technology, innovation, and expertise. The very next year, ProGauge opens a brand-new production facility in Milan, Italy. With all ProGauge ATG solutions — probes, consoles, 3D laser scan automatic tank calibration — now solely designed and manufactured at the new facility, ProGauge operations within Europe are significantly enhanced, while presenting DFS with future expansion opportunities for the ProGauge product range.

Moving from strength to strength, ProGauge continues to develop and launch pioneering automatic tank gauge (ATG) solutions, including the DFS DMP Flex Probe and ProGauge MagLink LX Plus console, fully EPA certified including Pressure Line Leak Detection (PLLD).

From humble beginnings as a small Italian manufacturer, ProGauge has transformed itself into a one-stop shop when it comes to fuel measurement. Now considered one of the leading brands for automatic tank gauge (ATG) solutions, ProGauge provides a variety of magnetostrictive tank probes (both wired and wireless), consoles, and related software to measure and monitor fuel tank levels, all over the world.
