English Español SPAR Australia tackles food waste

The retailer’s international association with Gander has reached Australia, with the first store in the country to implement the solution.

Independently owned SPAR Chevron in the Australian Gold Coast has become the first store within the SPAR Australia network to tackle food waste through the retailer’s association with Gander.

This collaboration positions the store in a leading position amidst the fight against food waste in the independent retail sector. Leveraging Gander's real-time automated mobile platform, the shop ensures that discounted, near-expiry products are visible to shoppers.

Once retailers connect their systems with the platform, all discounted products are automatically displayed to shoppers in real-time, eliminating the need for additional efforts from store teams.

“With food prices on the rise and growing concern for our environment, Gander offers more than just savings – it’s an opportunity for shoppers to take control of their grocery expenses while we, as retailers, address food waste and financial challenges,” said Nash Attwal, Managing Director of SPAR Chevron.

In 2021, SPAR International embarked on a global partnership with Gander to provide its  global network with the tools to tackle food waste head-on. This milestone in Australia sets the stage for a wider implementation across all of the chain’s markets.
